Step 2 (Building our frame)

Figuring out a good way to mount the laptop inside a picture frame was the hard part, actually doing it was pretty easy.  I went to the arts and crafts shop and purchased what is called a "Display Case" which is essentially a deep picture frame.  I also bought a wooden shelf that was 1/4" thick and the same width as the display case. Finally I went to the hardware store and bought some wood screws and mounting brackets.  I am sorry I did not write down the exact items I purchased but in summary:

1) 1" depth Display case (11x17" picture can fit in it)
2) A Black Matte (cardboard) to hide the wood in the display case.
3) 1/4" piece of wood with same width as frame, but a longer
4) mounting brackets and wood screws from hardware store

First thing we need to do is cut the shelf (piece of wood) so that it sits firmly inside the picture frame.  Since the shelf I bought was already 12" wide I just had to trim off one end.  It then sat firmly inside the picture frame.

Next thing is the tricky part.  We have to cut out the shape of the laptop monitor in the shelf , centered.  This is key, the LCD Monitor will be attatched to the black matte which is glued to the shelf, which holds the laptop in place.  (you will see this in the picture more clearly).

I used the actual monitor lid for sizing.

Here are all the pieces for this step (with the hole already cut in the shelf)

Here is our completed frame ready for the computer and LCD to be mounted.

You can see that the MATTE (black cardboard) hides the wood (and my crappy sawing job) and has a nice front appearance.
